A Word from “Hey Guy”
“Take a good, hard look at your life.
Think it over.
You have spent a lot of money,
but you haven’t much to show for it.
You keep filling your plates,
but you never get filled up.
You keep drinking and drinking and drinking,
but you’re always thirsty.” The Message Version (Haggai 1)
“He who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.” NASB (Haggai 1)
Sounds really familiar, right? Would you believe that’s a message God gave to Haggai about 3000 years ago?Never figured “Hey Guy” could be so relevant, huh?
So what was the reason these folks were spinning their wheels? And what was the solution?
“Because while you’ve run around, caught up with taking care of your own houses, my Home is in ruins.”
Now, I don’t think Hey Guy’s message is so much about sticks and bricks buildings. It’s about people. Remember the verse, “You are God’s temple – His Spirit dwells in YOU”?
It’s about people all around us who are in ruins. Whether they realize it or not…so many are living without peace … without joy …without His life flowing through them. As if what they can see is all there is!
And when we run around town, and just walk by Sally at the hair salon, or Joe at the grocery store, as if they don’t matter to us, we’re missing “Hey Guy’s” message for us.
The cart is before the horse….things are out of order… life just doesn’t work right that way … “keep filling your plates, but never get filled up.. ..”
So this is what God told Haggai (“Hey Guy”)
“Think back. Before you set out to put My kingdom first, how did it go with you ? Isn’t it true that your foot-dragging, halfhearted efforts at rebuilding My house were reflected in a sluggish, halfway return on your crops….?” (Haggai 2) In other words, have you been working hard and been unfulfilled?
So, now hear God’s encouragement to us through “Hey Guy”(Haggai) to set things right.
“ Now think ahead from this same date—this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Think ahead from when the Temple rebuilding was launched. Has anything in your fields—vine, fig tree, pomegranate, olive tree—failed to flourish? From now on you can count on a blessing.” (Haggaii 2)
So, God is saying to” Hey Guy”, and “Hey Guy” is saying to us:
Today, August 30, 2013, mark it down…from this day forward, as you put my Kingdom first, all these other things will be added to you. You can COUNT ON A BLESSING.
My Face will shine on you.
My Spirit will abide with you.
I will bless YOUR home.
You will have whatever you need.
You will have My Presence.
You can’t out-give God! You turn to Him, and He POURS blessings into your lap!
So, practically speaking, what can YOU do today, to put God’s kingdom first?
That’s where Reach A Life Today’s Free resources can help. Pick 1 of the 50 Ways to Share God’s Love. Today, instead of building your own house the whole day, build HIS some. Reach out to someone with His love. Maybe you could send some an encouraging email, like those on Crosswalk.com/Newsletters. Maybe you could send someone an inspirational verse or video or song that you like. Maybe print Love Leaflets and give ‘em away. That will build God’s house… a brick here…and shingle there.
And You Can COUNT ON A BLESSING!
Thanks for the good word, “Hey Guy”.
